আমি ওখানেই দাঁড়িয়ে আছি।সে খানটায় তুমি আমাকে দাঁড় করিয়ে রাখলে,
স্টেশনের লাল টিনের চাল
ঢেকে দিয়েছে যে অচেনা গাছ।
ঐ যে যার গোড়াতে নিউ বাংলা বুক স্টল,
যার সুতোয় দোলে রঙিন ম্যগাজিন,খাবনামা আর
হস্তরেখা দেখার বই।
পাশে কয়লার চুলোতে চা বানায় একজন লোক।
রোজ কত অভিজাত রেলগাড়ী চলে যায়
ঘাড় উচু করে।থামে,না এই অখ্যাত স্টেশনে।
শুধু দুএকটা মেইল ট্রেন আর মাল গাড়ী
জিরোয়।
জানো আমি ঘর বেঁধেছি রেল লাইনে ধারে।
আমি জানি কখন কোন ট্রেন যায়।
কখন সিগন্যালের বাতি সবুজ হয় কিংবা লাল।
গভীর রাতে যখন ট্রেন ফেরে
আমার ঘরের হৃদপিন্ডটা পর্যন্ত ঝনঝন করে বাজে।আমি জেগে থাকি
যদি তুমি ঐ ট্রেনেই ফিরো।

The Midnight Train

I am in the same place
You made me wait,
An unknown tree obscures
The red tin roof of the station.

The New Bangla Book Stall remains
Right at the bottom of that tree.
Before the store along a row of wire
Hangs the colorful magazines, books from
Interpretation of dreams to astrology.

A man prepares tea in a coal stove
Right next to the bookstore.
Much of a higher class train arrogantly
Goes past this strange station every day,
Without bothering to stop here.
One or two express or freight trains
Stop here for a while at times.

I have set up a house near the rail line,
I am familiar with the train timetable.
I know when the indicator light turns red or green,
Which train comes back late at night?
My heart throbs with the clattering sound.
I remain awake with the desire,
You will return on that midnight train.
