হাওয়া বদল
উনবিংশ,বিংশ,একবিংশ শতাব্দী বুঝিনা
বুঝিনা কবিতায় শতকের হাওয়া,
তাই আজও মুগ্ধ হই চর্যাপদে,মহাভারতে
শতক যাকে ম্লান করেনি আজও।
সর্বত্র আধুনিকতার ছোঁয়া-- কবিতায়ও
তাই বলে উদ্ভট পোশাকে অর্ধ উলঙ্গ হবে
কবিতার শরীর?
ধানের শীষে শিশিরবিন্দু পড়বে না?
শুধু ছাদবাগানে ক্যাকটাস?
দুর্বোধ্য চাষাবাদ,বালি পাথরকুচি
জলবিহীন,শিশিরবিহীন; কাঁটা
সে কাঁটা আমাকে বিদ্ধ করে।
আমি জীবনানন্দের বাংলার মানুষ
শঙ্খচিল শালিক ভালোবাসি
ভালোবাসি নবান্নের উৎসব।

The change of wind

The staging of the 19th, 20th, 21st centuries,
I find it quite disconcerting,
Nor can I measure the effect of centuries on poems,
Always the 'Charyapada', 'Maha Bharata' attracts me,
As the centuries could not dominate its transcendence.

Modernity is pervasive, poems too affected.
Should poems expose their frame to strange fashion?
Will not the dew fall on the paddy-spikes?
Only in the roof garden are the desert cacti!
Specialized agriculture, sand, stone-chips
Without water, dew, only thistle
That always prick me
I belong to a country where Jivanananda lived,
I am fond of kite and myna,
I treasure the celebration of 'Nabanna'.
