মেইলটা পোস্ট করবো কিনা
ভাবতে ভাবতে ই সেন্ড বাটনে চাপ দিয়ে দেয় শীলা
তারপরই মনে হয়
ঠিক হলো না কাজটা।
এতো বেশী কঠিন সত্য
এতো বেশী ধ্রুব সত্য অপ্রিয় সত্য
সহ্য করতে পারবে কী?
হৃদয় যন্ত্র যদি হুট করে বন্ধ করে দেয়
বীপ বীপ?
যদি আর কোনদিনও না তাকায় ওর পানে।
দেবদাস বাবু পোস্ট বাক্স র পাশে
একবেলা অপেক্ষায় থাকলে পার্বতীর
চিঠিখানার যাত্রা রুখতে পারতো ঠিকই
কিন্তু এই যন্ত্র সভ্যতায় বাটন দাবানোর
সাথে সাথেই ডেলিভারড হয়ে গেলো।
আরএক সেকেন্ড পর সীন।
আহ শীলা ! এইবার মরন হবে তোর!!

Sheela was uncertain,
To send or not to send e-mail,
Off guard, she pressed the button.
She knew she had done a blunder.

Such a hard truth,
Such an unpalatable truth,
Would he be able to stand?
If the heart quits pounding,
What if there is no beep, beep!

Had Devdas sat waiting by the postbox,
Might have redirected Parbati’s billet-doux,
But in this mechanized age,
The message is delivered,
The moment one presses the key,
The message in a second
Reaches the other end,
Showing the sign of a tick and ‘seen’,
Oh, Sheela! You’re on the brink of ruin.
