God Our Stronghold

Kill them not, lest we shall forget,
Make them totter by your power;
O Lord our shield paid your debt,
Who shall handle at the hour.
Of their mouths comes liable sin,
Their words coming from the tongue;
Trapped in their pride that will begin,
For the cursing and lies they flung.
Consume upon them in their wrath,
Consume them till they are no more;
That they know God has blocked their path,
And will rule to settle the score.
He rules to the ends of the earth,
Even though they return at night;
Howling like dogs having no worth,
Prowling until the morning light.
They wander about to find food,
Then growl if they don’t get their fill;
Craving puts them in a bad mood,
Not content, grudging will instill.
But I will sing about God’s strength,
I will sing of His steadfast love;
I persevere at any length,
From the blessings that comes thereof.
He has been to me a fortress,
As my defense in troubled times;
A refuge at times of distress;
Judgment to those committing crimes.
I will sing praises to the Lord,
The God who shows me steadfast love;
He’s the God who I have adored,
With mercy and grace from above.
