Contrary to popular judgment, self-care is not selfish. This involves taking responsibility and loving yourself in healthy ways. Some examples of this include but are not limited to getting enough sleep, eating a balanced meal, taking time to build up your inner person, and being safe. A synonym of self-care is self-love, which involves self-acceptance and self-respect. This includes getting along with yourself, establish healthy boundaries, learning strengths and weaknesses, withstanding temptation especially by standing up for what is right and choosing friends who share our values, or at least understand them.
Trying to understand the people in our paths is an example of love, which is wanting the best for those in our paths and desiring those who have come after us to be better off than we are. Most of the people who have gone before us want us to be better off than they are, which is why they have established the rules and instilled the values that they have. This, of course, is an illustration of the love that they have for us.
There are many ways to express love, however, and there is a Perfect Example of Love who is always with us. Giving back is one way to express love and He has given us a variety of gifts according to Romans 12:6-8, 1 Corinthians 12:1-31, Ephesians 4:7-11, and 1 Peter 4:10-11. Indeed, He gives because He loves us. Sharing, interceding, and offering encouragement are additional ways to express love according to the Divine Love Letter.
Volunteering is one way to give back in order to express love to Him, the people and society at large. There are many ways to volunteer, which is actually an example of self-care since the benefits include health and happiness according to the Help Guide Website on Google.com. There are many online volunteer opportunities that don't require transportation or divulging an address, such as the ones offered by VolunteerMatch and Google as a whole. This not only protects the volunteers and workers from overexposure. This also secures the privacy of the clients and others in society, including but not limited to the company and employer themselves.
In summary, there are many manifestations of self-care and (self-) love. This is key in order to have healthy relationships with family, friends and others. According to Ephesians 2:10, you are His masterpiece and seeing yourself the way He sees you is the Highest Form of Self-Love.
