It took them all of twenty longest years it's true
To win the famous Aussie Melbourne Cup but it's ok
I guess some credit at least us Aussies give to them
An Aussie horse of three hundred quid won in UK

If there'd been a grey race horse in that famous race
It being a damp heavy track it's ever true to say
That horse from England would not have won at all
Just lucky for England it was in Melbourne on the day

But for what it's worth as things were rein and girth
The sun it came out and not a grey on the day I say
They should have had a horse called The Convict Stud
And that cup would still be in Melbourne and to stay

It was a grand race one so many embrace with grace
The jockey will be now pride of place on the UK B B C
But I bet they'll not mention a track still rather wet or
An Aussie race horse worth three hundred quid agree

I hope they don't forget a track that was wet earlier
And I hope they give that jockey all that he's due
As it took them twenty years in Australia to win one
And if not for that jockey it'd take them longer true

If they did the right thing they'd knight him to sir
As he changed the way it's been for the longest time
A jockey that gave it all he had to give on the day
Giving UK new respect in Aussie horse racing divine
