I spent years writing and selling songs
A very longest time ago now it seems
Country songs many can relate to in life
Of lost and of often many broken dreams

I've heard several sung but once sold
They belonged then to the singer of same
Who has every right to add a cord or two
Or change it's weather sunshine to rain

Just something I once did along the way
I could write one in seconds flat it's so
Like one I wrote in an Irish bar one time
While enjoying an Irish beer laughter a flow

Romance was born in Ireland
The longest ever time ago
When a very little Irish lassy sat alone
Dressed in a pretty bonnet with a bow

She sat alone sat upon a tuft of grass
Just warming herself there in the Irish sun
Along came the smallest little Irish person
And it was there her wee Irish heart was won

He told her of such pots full of hidden gold
But that never took her Irish heart away true
It was then he gave her a real Irish kiss
Then and there two hearts away they flew

It was upon that day romance it was born
In Ireland as only this could ever be
Romance it was born in Ireland long ago
And that feeling in ireland was then first set free
