MY BOOMARANG

What seems long ago about sixty years or so
I had a play mate in the country years ago
And back then we played games then without names
Of explorers adventurers great friends its so

We'd both laugh and roll with laughter at a song
That some guy back then decided long ago to write
How both of us loved this song ever so long ago
Singing it and he was black and I was white

It went ..

My boomarang wont come back My boomerang wont come back
I've chucked it around all over the place
I'm a big disgrace to the Aboriginee race
my boomerang wont come back

Then their was no such a thing as political correctness
We had no use at all for it back then in any single way
Regardless of who or where or when or color age what ever
All as one we were best friends forever more and a day

I had not seen him since then at all for many years
One day in the city behind of me I heard stamping feet
And next thing I knew and it came right out of the blue
An old song sang to a new kind of rock and roll beat

My boomarang wont come back My boomerang wont come back
Ive chucked it around all over the place
Im a big disgrace to the Aboriginee race
My boomerang wont come back

I turned around right there in a single instant bound
And a man now not a boy that I really back then knew
Did a little happiest dance and thrown in a little prance
And he said to me smiling well now old friend how are you

Time it went by as we all know that time it does fly
And it was just the other day how it seems to me
I was walking from work home through a park alone
And the strangest sight I then came to see

There was a man standing there with now silvery hair
And he started running around a seat in front of me
I stood there to look and my very hand he then shook
And I smiled as I then noticed it could only be he

He sang ..

My boomarang wont come back My boomerang wont come back
Ive chucked it around all over the place
im a big disgrace to the Aboriginee race
My boomerang wont come back

We talked of old times we loved of days gone by
And some of the memories almost had us both cry
Others had us laugh so much thought we would die
And then their were those that had us sit back and sigh

Well I just read in a paper and heard from another
The word that my dearest childhood mate of long ago
That he had passed on and on the same date as his mum
He was the best friend back then of mine it is so

I made a point of going to his fare well on the day
Though it was so very far to then travel at the time
And there was his sister who still recognized myself
And so many memories then came from back down the line

Now days theres all this color thing with so many it's true
And it really insults the best of good friends from long ago
When it simply did not matter still does not at all to me
Memories of a lot and my friend and families that I loved so.
