For to me to live is Christ,
And to die will have much gain;
In Him I became enticed,
No longer feeling such pain.

If I am to live in flesh,
Means the fruit of my labor;
Yet which I choose would be fresh,
Never giving to my neighbor.

I am stressed between the two,
I desire to depart;
Be with Christ I can construe,
Far better within my heart.

But in the flesh, I remain,
As more essential for you;
For understanding the pain,
That comes where payment is due.

For I have this confidence,
Convinced that I remain;
Joy in faith is a defense,
For the reward to attain.

That you may have ample cause,
To glory in Jesus Christ;
As His Spirit cleanse your flaws,
From events that have enticed.

Let just your manner of life,
Be worthy of the Gospel;
Standing firm against the strife,
Being caused by some people.

Be not scared of anything,
Being cast by any foe;
The destruction it will bring,
For causing your doubt to show.

It has been granted to you,
For Christ sake that you believe;
But suffering does pursue,
Of salvation you receive.

Pursuing the same conflict,
Which you see of what I had;
It will never contradict,
What was making Jesus sad.
