I TRADED A FIST FULL OF HATEFOR A POCKET FULL OF FORGIVENESS
Years ago, I was always so mad
Hated everything and everybody so sad.
Not sure what made me that way.
So sad I wasted so many days.
So easy for me to punch someone,
Had a hair trigger temper, I was not any fun.
I TRADED A FIST FULL OF HATE
FOR A POCKET FULL OF FORGIVENESS
Yet I would be the first one to say I am not racist.
Use my fist first if you did not agree.
Everyone else was wrong except for me.
Then one day I almost died.
A car speeding toward me thought I was fried.
From out of nowhere an elderly black man
He stepped in and pulled me out of the way.
Will never forget that day.
I TRADED A FIST FULL OF HATE
FOR A POCKET FULL OF FORGIVENESS
Are you ok son, you look simply fine?
Why would you risk your life this time?
Son we are all built the exact same on the inside.
But on the outside god just gave us different covers
Hanging on to hate you will be smothered.
Put his hand in his pocket, pulled it out.
Then sprinkled over me, son that is happiness.
When I turned around, he was gone.
Something changed that day, seen where I was so wrong.
From that day on
I TRADED A FIST FULL OF HATE
FOR A POCKET FULL OF HAPPINESS
