Face is lined
Wrinkles can’t be ignored
Touch of gray
Ravages of age
And you can either fight it
Trying to stay young
An unwinnable game
Or accept that you’ve simply
Lived a tough life
The body can take only so much punishment
Perhaps, it’s out of your control
As we don’t choose
Where and who we’re born into
Or you’re overthinking as usual
Forgive me for calling you cynical.

You may be an old soul
But haven’t forgotten how
To be child like
That concept of innocence
That vanishes when we’re told
To be responsible
Accountable
One can’t stand still completely
Getting trampled by fate
And the young may dismiss you
For being out of touch
But you have what they don’t
A wealth of experience
And who cares if you can’t match
Their vast but not vital energy
It’s up to you to either believe
You’re past the expiration date
Or in the prime of your life
Via an elder statesman or
Pretend to be someone
You used to be
Never fully believed
Or respected.
