Ever-Present God

You have searched and known me,
You know when I sit down;
And when on bended knee,
Reason to wear a frown.

For you discern my thought,
As you search out my path;
Acquainted what I sought,
Guiding me from the wrath.

Even before a word,
That is leaving my tongue;
You have already heard,
Of what my mind has flung.

You know altogether,
Putting the hem in me;
The place we will gather,
For hearing your decree.

Such knowledge is so great,
Too wonderful to hear;
My life to compensate,
Acknowledge and revere.

Where can I go and hide,
Away from your Spirit;
For I did not abide,
From ill-fated merit.

So where shall I then flee,
Away from Your presence;
Somewhere you cannot see,
Because of defiance.

If I go to Heaven,
I know You will be there;
Where is a safe haven,
Without You would I share.

If I went into hell,
For there would be no doubt;
You would find where I dwell,
The place where I hideout.

The dark will not cover,
Because You are the light;
And You would discover,
Even the darkest night.

You made me in the womb,
And followed as I grew;
When I am in the tomb,
You will come to rescue.
