From a lad always worked hard
No gyms back then in those days
Never afraid of hardest work
Fit back then hard work a craze

Like my father I was solid muscle
Just the way it was back then
Young guys today work out lots
But hard work I knew back when

Now I'm 76 and looking back some
And never faulted in all that time
Not looking as brilliant as I did but
Still not afraid of work just as fine

It's hard work that'll stand by you
Never been ill in all my years true
And learned more than lots believe
During all that time right through

I've seen young guys look like Atlas
Coming out of a local gym many a day
But hardest solid continual working
Would catch them short I dare say

Many of mine with selective memories
Have no idea of before they were born
What I'd done made created back when
Years before they had that first yawn

But it's being as I am today hard work
Most of all at my now grand old age
I look back way down life's track
Hardest work turned each page
