You want to be loved
Respected by society
For simply choosing
To be whom you are
And when the shock and awe subsides
And life moves on
You become embittered
Descend into stereotypes
By labeling those
That don’t bow down to your altar
And swallow all of you words
As if a host given at communion
And If I’m somehow can survive
Without being admired
Coddled and unashamedly noticed
Why are you the exception?

Only I should be exempted
From the pursuit of happiness?
I’m the number 1 target of the moment
You’re free to be who you are
And live the life you choose
With an understanding
There will be peaks and valleys
Within the bell curve
But please cease
With this self-congratulatory nonsense
For a legacy isn’t built on how you appear
It’s on what you’ve accomplished
But not being loved based on your expectations
Is a judgment I’m not qualified to perform.
