Remember the days
When you could relax
Smile
Be present
Help others
When it felt good
To escape from your skin
And did something important
Instead of reveling in sin?

Some fear that those days
Are long past
Never to happen again
That you’ve hunkered down so much
That a comeback would be anticlimactic
What do they know?
They only assume
Besides they enjoy kicking you around
When you’re down
But as long as you can breathe
The possibilities of light
Being brought back to the land of darkness
Fills them with discontent.

Perhaps, it’s all bluster
And chest beating bravado
I’m not too sure
Some fall into the allure
Of superficial
Materialistic illusion
Basis for their self-worth
I long to return to the state
Of absolute grace
Strong in spirit
With a profound space of emotional serenity
But not at the expense of others
I still believe in salvation
Not in gurus.
