Tired of taking a backseat
Whether to someone else
An idea
Irrationality
Negativity of delusion
A slave to an illusion
As if happiness is a red herring
Unattainable state
For if this fate is shrouded in doubt
Confusion and emptiness set in
What’s the point of even trying?

I still believe
It’s not naivety
It’s born from experience
But some want to cross you out
And balance the books
But never dared take a second look
Beyond the superficial
Into the depths of your soul
Take the ball and go home
Or plant a stake
Covet it
Until your dying breath
Be a mouse
A quiet recluse
Or a thorn in their side muckraker
But without ego
Because if we keep overpraising
The overdog
And ignore and condemn the underdog
Then we’re in for a long drought
Or do something noble
Try to see the best
Forsaking the rest
While remaining humble
It’s in your wheelhouse.
