Where did that little boy go?
Brimming with promise
Potential of endearing smile
That never seemed forced
Shut down and on a course
To somewhere in mind
Where it’s safe
But no one took the time
To ask him how he’s feeling
Inevitably leading to those ill advised
Distractions and phony panaceas
Just to maintain and get through
One more agonizing day.

If friends appear in view
It’s a short term vacation
An uninspired vocation
Ceasing when someone more vibrant
Exciting comes along
No other choice to leave him behind
Not good for the reputation
Toxicity upon the soul.

In the habit of people pleasing
Just to hang onto someone
No matter how fraudulent and tenuous
But this lonely existence
Some saw as weakness
And took advantage
Inability to feel and trust
So everyone viewed with suspicion
A most distressing condition
And the only one he can truly lean on
Won’t abandon him
Is the man above
He’s the reason
There is still breath
A chance for another day.
