Looking back at yesterday
Trying to decipher
Where I misstepped
Perhaps too opinionated
Honesty flowing too easily
From my heart
But no progress is made
If we’re afraid to speak our minds
While coddling the unrepentant.

You can shield oneself in the bubble
Within the ivory tower so long
Until it comes crashing down
Yet you had warnings but
Too arrogant to acknowledge.

You could with fake crocodile tears
Declare you fought passionately for me
But you’d rather be in a safe space
Hands united with the so called winners
Thumbing you nose at the losers
Who dared to be something different
Following their heart
Not towing the line.

Keep on insisting that you’re being sincere
I will hold you to the promise
But no human power
Is willing to walk beside me
For what is noble and just
For fear of being ostracized and judged
Far too old and set in ways
With maintaining respect
Or not worth the risk
Of long term consequences
So in the end
As it’s always been
Him and me
Against the insane cavalry.
