Category: /General/Still grateful for the simple pleasures
Waking up with a clear conscience
And the smoothest road to walk upon
Aiming to achieve worthwhile serenity
That is bestowed from heaven
It wasn’t always beatific
So long ago
As I was willing to kill for the part
Of the self-destructive martyr
Whose heart was sullied
By the decadent
Desperate to find a window
Into my soul
As they didn’t have a desire
To earn without sacrificing themselves.
Never did I pretend
To be some overcompensated bully
Salivating like a wild dog
For a fight
This tough guy exterior
Feeling childlike inferior
Just because I wasn’t loved
To the degree
I felt entitled to be
Life ain’t fair, kid
You’re not gonna be respected
By the whole world
And some will dismiss you automatically
By the sight of your name
And a quick glance at your face
But that doesn’t mean one
Has to drown inside a bottle
Infected via a needle
Suffocated by smoke.
As each day passes
One becomes stronger
And confident to tackle the obstacles
No doubt will appear
But one must continue to love the ones
Who have steadfastly remained loyal?
I’m not ashamed to admit
I’ve never been the one steering
The vessel on this journey
As I remain thankful for the opportunity
For a second act
A second chance at living.
