I failed to inspire you
To the greatest heights
You are possible of achieving
And it saddens me
You chose to put faith in the dubious
Ones with the biggest boasts
But have nothing to show for it
Save for the symbols of individual expression.

I can’t understand why
Someone with the undeniable talent
At your fingertips decides
To throw it all way
For the fickleness and fads
You can counterpunch
You’re still young with
Hundreds of thousands of miles before you
Well, God only knows what fate will reveal
But I don’t want you to get to my age
And look back with regrets
Beating yourself up for all the
Wasted time that goes so quickly.

Perhaps, my message never got through
The eyes may be open
Ears are closed
I never pretended to be hip
Cool
Tougher than nails
I shared my experiences
But overrated my influence upon you
But instead of letting me go
For someone far better or wiser
You preferred to take the low road
A few bright days of wow and wonder
But the long run will be filled with tempestuous storms
I hope to God
I’m wrong.
