Somewhere along the journey
In trying to find myself
I got snared by the delusional
And the vast land that lied ahead
Became an empty abyss
To hang my head.

Internalized every criticism
And imagined hurt
Became a shell of myself
Believed that I had no right
To achieve purity
But to be covered in dirt
Ignored
Jeered
Avoided
But those were opinions
Not undeniable facts.

Tried to imitate the best
Or emulate the worst
Rollercoaster that was in constant motion
Feeing like the only passenger
As the confidence dwindled
To a mere drip
The shadows case
Life was existing
I wasn’t afraid of death
I was scared of living.

Prayer and understanding
Open mind and heart
I’m on the correct road
Day by day
It’s never easy
But I’m slowly seeing the benefits
Children please don’t do what I’ve done
By allowing others
To dictate your fate.
