Should have taken you to the cleaners
Tore down the plaster
Covered a cowardice of heart
While you pretended to be powerful
An obvious overcompensation
But I failed to do so
And allowed the illusion to continue.

You could have accomplished something worthwhile
The potential has always been present
But you denied the gifts
Afraid of being labeled a sell out
Or terrified of success
So content on being an angry man
With the biggest chip on shoulder
A slave to an era long past
As you laugh at the ones that value
What opportunities come along
If you’re so satisfied?
Why have an opinion either way?

As long as there are ones
That admire the scowl and false bravado
You’ll never have to face the day
When your weaknesses are splashed out
Across the landscape
But I have to ask myself
Why waste my breath on someone?
That doesn’t respect me?
Let alone respect himself?
