For another fix
In the deep freeze
Desperate for relief
The truest freedom
In facing reality straight
And clarity of mind
For I’m terrified I will
Never be able to deal
With the day to day
Without being knee deep in illusion.

Once there was a bond over love of chemicals
Either death or sobriety
Are the alternatives
Inevitably waking up
To the warning signs outside my window
Self-destruction wasn’t going to be my legacy
An once the phony panaceas were stripped
From our souls
No more common ground to be found
No more desire in exploring anything further
The so-called union of the year
Decade or century
Was a sham
For we tricked and manipulated
Each other with counterfeit emotions
And the “honesty” poured forth
While under the influence
Was hogwash
And so I’m grateful
We were able to walk away
Still clean
And I was able to find someone
That complimented me
Beautifully
Honestly
Loyally
And loves me for not being a con artist
But for being real.
