Jonah’s Prayer

I called out to the Lord,
Because of my distress;
I had not been ignored,
Being under duress.

The belly of a fish,
The Lord hearing my voice;
This is my only wish,
Repelled out is my choice.

For You cast me within,
In the heart of the sea;
Since contempt is a sin,
Your waves passed over me.

I turned back from Your sight,
Yet I shall look again;
Because You have such might,
Confused causing such pain.

Water closed over me,
Surrounds to take my life;
Weeds trapped cannot get free,
Adding upon my strife.

At the roots of the hills,
I went down to the land;
But I had found no thrills,
To follow the command.

Yet You brought up my life,
From all the corruption;
That was causing me strife,
Being a disruption.

Life was fainting away,
But remembered the Lord;
I pleaded as to pray,
Never to be ignored.

I sacrifice to You,
To do what I am told;
Heed where I am to go,
Letting Your plan unfold.
