SHE WAS OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW

I sat next to a woman in a carriage
Upon the longest trip upon a train~
She smiled at me I smiled at her
She smiled at me again~
Talking she spoke softly of her wrinkles
As if to say sorry for the sight~
But if only she could have been aware
Of how beautiful she looked , So right~
Her laugh lines told of much kindness
And a sense of humour to be found~
Of how hard she d worked in her life
And of much wisdom I ll be bound~
Her eyes told of love and understanding
And of how she liked to have things just so~
Of an amount of sophistication
But thaey still had that slightly cheeky glow~
She was old enough to know how to live
But as well how to take her time~
Not to live as if there was no tomorrow
And how to appreciate all things fine~
A truly deep and magestic woman
And I might add with a charisma all of her own~
I could tell all of this by simply looking at her
Why I could almost see her home~
Her voice had in it a little saddness
But she had a flighty laugh as well~
A heart that was feeling just a little lonely
And there was a tear that almost fell~
